On the way our guide Sam (a professor) gave a thorough talk about the origins of WWI and WWII to ground us in why the wars happened and the necessity for the Allied attack at Normandy. The museum was a great resource filled with detailed information and Allied and German uniforms and artifacts up to a B-26 bomber! Sometimes I would stop listening during the Spanish part and I didn't realize she switched to English, and I'd miss some comments. At each destination, the guide would give instructions on the bus (when to meet after and where). Then she would take us on a walk describing certain details of the area. Gilles shared that he does extensive research when planning his tours which provides an accurate account of the events leading up to the invasion. As an American citizen, I was very impressed by the dedication of the French to maintaining the American cemetery to honor the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our Freedom. The tour was a Bucket List item for us and it exceeded our expectations.”
